Charming, solid wood antique record album holder with Cabriolet legs. Swing doors that shut securely. Sturdy. Will not easily tip over. Finished inside and out. Inside are 3 matching wood album dividers (they are not removable as best I can tell). They do not extend all the way to the back of the cabinet, however, so there is a small unobstructed storage area behind them.
Beautiful scroll carving design on front doors. Brass pulls have tarnished. Age-appropriate scuffs and marks. Has been polished and sitting in non-smoking home for over 65 years. Was a wedding gift to my mother (recently deceased) who married in June 1948.
Measurements: 20" wide x 17" deep x 26 ¾" high. Inside, the cabinet storage area is 13" high x 16" wide x 13½" deep. Note: The outside opening from the bottom of the wood to the top of the wood is 12" high. There is approximately another inch high of space inside behind the front wood fascia piece bordering the opening. (This is important to note if you plan to store modern albums inside. See Q&A below.)
There is no maker's mark anywhere on it that I can find so I do not know how it was made, who made it, or what kind of wood it is. I've been told by an appraiser the wood is Mahogany and likely the piece was made in the USA in the 1920s or 1930s. It's an adorable piece that could serve as a whimsical end table, bedside table or accent table in a cozy nook of your home.
Q: Someone asked me if modern albums fit inside it (as they measure 12" tall + their jackets/covers make them closer to 12 1/2" tall)--and the interior height of the cabinet is 13" high.
A: Yes. I've added a photo showing that 12" albums in their covers will fit inside. They have to be angled in order to insert them inside. The photo shows 27 albums inside. (Albums not included. Albums not for sale.) A few more could likely be added, but you will never be able to fill all sections to capacity because of the need to angle each individual record to get it in. I believe the cabinet's age suggests it was made for storing 78s, which are approximately 10" tall. However, if you don't have a large collection of today's 12"-high albums, the cabinet will hold at least 27, depending upon the thickness of each of your albums.
